ESR24-053 project on AI-assisted holographic microscopy for environmental water monitoring

Project Overview

HoloWaterAI focuses on improving environmental and drinking water monitoring for Vienna’s critical water infrastructure. Using autonomous holographic microscopy and machine learning, the project identifies light-scattering objects causing turbidity, including sediments, plastics, plant fragments, animals, algae, and bacteria.

The resulting high-resolution object data is linked with upstream environmental changes and operational water parameters to enable better real-time decisions and long-term quality insights.
